Expertise
Partner. Specialist in project management, gender and cooperative governance. Based in Sherbrooke, Canada.
Background
A founding partner at Borealys Advisory, Annik is an international cooperation professional known for her rigor, organizational skills and ability to bring stakeholders together. With more than twenty years of experience in program management, community development and gender equality in Canada, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, she combines a detailed knowledge of donor requirements with solid field practice.
Holding a master’s degree in the management and governance of cooperatives and mutuals from the Université de Sherbrooke, completed in part at the FAO’s subregional office in Tunis, and a bachelor’s degree in social work, she has a thorough command of cooperative and collective development models.
She is currently compliance and project support officer at SOCODEVI, where she contributes to managing projects in Senegal, Mali, Haiti and Honduras. She ensures compliance with donor requirements, coordinates implementation plans and reports, monitors budgets and trains teams. She also takes part in business development: market watch, Go/No-Go analyses and proposal writing.
Previously, at the Embassy of Canada in Tunisia, she coordinated the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives, from the call for projects through to reporting to Global Affairs Canada, and liaised with Tunisian ministries for a capacity-building program.
Gender equality runs through her entire career. Trained by UN Women in women’s economic empowerment and gender-responsive evaluation, as well as in GBA Plus, she integrates these issues at every stage of the project cycle. For more than ten years she took part in a twinning program with women in Mali, and she has championed women’s place in politics, to the point of being elected a municipal councillor.
In Québec, she had a long career in community organizing: multi-stakeholder consultations, setting up organizations and management advisory support.
Her skills cover project cycle management, donor compliance and reporting, grant fund management, cooperative governance, facilitation and women’s economic empowerment. A board member of the Carrefour de solidarité internationale de Sherbrooke, she was named Personality of the Year by the Forces Avenir program, its highest distinction across Québec.
In short, Annik Giguère brings Borealys mandates a command of managing projects funded by international donors and a keen eye for gender equality, for projects that are well planned, compliant and inclusive.
