Nancy Hammond

Expertise

Senior expert in business strategy, SMEs and women’s financial inclusion. Based in Sherbrooke, Canada.

Background

Nancy is a recognized financial sector executive who combines more than thirty-five years of experience in banking and insurance with international expertise in SME financing and women’s financial inclusion. She is valued for her strategic vision, her leadership and her ability to transform organizations from within.

Holding an MBA from Concordia University, where she graduated in the top 5% of her cohort, and a bachelor of commerce with distinction, Nancy also holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and training in the strategic management of artificial intelligence from the Université de Sherbrooke.

For fifteen years, she held senior executive positions at some of Canada’s largest financial institutions. At National Bank, as regional vice-president, she revitalized an 18-branch territory and grew net revenue by 7% in the first year. At TD Insurance, she renewed ten affinity partnerships worth CAD 5 to 25 million each and rolled out a new national strategy for business accounts. At Sun Life, she co-led the growth strategy of the Québec distribution network, with a team of 20 employees and 250 independent advisors, and finished first in Canada.

For the past eight years, she has been a senior consultant to the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group. She has led some thirty projects there in Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America. She also works on women’s access to decision-making positions in insurance, in French-speaking Africa and Southeast Asia.

An expert in the Human Centered Design approach, Nancy runs co-creation workshops, focus groups and gender-sensitivity training, both in person and remotely. She writes concept notes, implementation plans, monitoring indicators and end-of-project reports to international standards. She is at ease with senior management and works in French and English.

A corporate director, she sits on the board of the Ordre des techniciens et techniciennes dentaires du Québec, where she was appointed by the Office des professions. She also sits on the Dean’s Advisory Board of the John Molson School of Business. She was named Concordia’s MBA Graduate of the Year, an “Essential Woman in Finance” by Premières en affaires magazine, and one of Québec’s top 40 MBAs.

In short, Nancy Hammond brings financial institutions the perspective of an executive who has herself steered the growth of banking networks, and the experience of an expert who now helps banks and insurers better serve SMEs and women entrepreneurs.
